Mr Matthew Liew is a keen innovator and performs HoLEP surgery, which many consider to be the gold standard surgical approach to treating prostate enlargement symptoms. Mr Matthew Liew is the first UK surgeon to carry out male circumcision using the latest generation novel CircCurerTM device. Matthew has mentored several urologists on this technique and presented his findings nationally, which include rapid surgery (under 10 mins), suitability for local anaesthesia, low post-operative pain, and 100% patient cosmetic satisfaction.

Mr Matthew Liew performs laser bladder tumour ablation (TULA) under local anaesthetic to avoid the need for a formal anaesthetic to treat small bladder tumour recurrences, and optimise patient experience outcomes. Matthew is the co-lead of the GM TULA service set up to support delivery of this service to every local trust. He also offers other new techniques including en-bloc bladder tumour resections (ERBT). Matthew is a named contributor to the 2022 Getting it Right First Time (GIRFT) urology guidance for Bladder Cancer.

Mr Matthew Liew developed the stone multidisciplinary team (MDT) in Wigan, Bolton and Salford and is a Key Opinion Leader in Endourology for Richard Wolf, Teleflex and Coloplast.

He received his research doctorate (Doctor of Medicine, MD) from the University of Manchester after an intensive study of Kidney Cancer chemotherapy resistance mechanisms at the Christie Hospital.
