Mr Arie Parnham – Consultant Urological Surgeon

Mr Arie Parnham is a fellowship trained urologist and a national expert in surgery for penile cancer and men’s health issues (including erectile dysfunction, penile implants, penile reconstruction, Peyronie’s disease, Male infertility and Male Sexual Dysfunction). Arie is a full-time consultant at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Arie graduated from Birmingham University in 2005 and went on to complete his surgical and urological training in the West Midlands, Oxford and the North West. He has worked at three supra-specialist andrology centres and completed a prestigious fellowship at Europe’s largest dedicated andrology unit. He has also completed observerships at Weil Cornell (New York) in male infertility and pelvic surgery at Leuven University Hospital, Belgium.

Arie is the only surgeon in the North West and one of only four in the country that has completed the Weil Cornell microsurgical training for male infertility (The surgeons at Weil Cornell were the pioneers and leaders in microsurgical fertility techniques including micro-TESE, vasovasotomy, epididymovasostomy and no scalpel vasectomy).

Arie has published extensively on subjects including penile cancer, erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease, male infertility and other disorders of male sexual health. As a result of his experience, he is regularly invited to talk internationally.

Arie has been a member of the European Association of Urologists guideline panel for male sexual dysfunction, developing guidance for the whole of Europe on this subject. He also sits on the British National Committee for Andrology, Genital and Urethral Surgery.

Arie is a reviewer for 4 journals, a subeditor and an invited member of the publication steering committee for the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

Arie holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education and runs a module for the Royal College of Surgeons on operative skills in urology. He teaches on national and international courses on men’s health and is an honorary lecturer at The University of Manchester.

Mr Jeremy Oates – Consultant Urological Surgeon

Mr Jeremy Oates is a Consultant Urologist and Robotic Surgeon specialising in the diagnosis and management of prostate cancer and the management of retroperitoneal disease including testicular cancer and sarcomas. 

Jeremy is a full time Consultant at the Christie NHS Foundation trust though also holds Honorary Contracts with a number of other hospitals in the North West. He runs the Prostate surgical programme for the North of Manchester, providing robotic surgical options for a population of over a million. He is also a core member of the retroperitoneal surgical team at the Christie, providing testicular cancer and sarcoma care for the North West of England and beyond.  

Jeremy trained at the University of Liverpool, he started surgical training in Merseyside and subsequently completed general Urological in Greater Manchester. He was awarded a Doctorate for his research into renal cancer biology, studying at the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research. On completion of training in 2013 was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon and Lead Urological Cancer clinician at Mid-Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation trust. He subsequently moved to The Christie in 2017, developing the Robotic prostate service for the North of Manchester.

Jeremy is actively involved in education, holding several honorary lecturer and senior lecturer positions and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education. He has published and presented internationally on cancer research and educational issues.

Mr Maurice Lau – Consultant Urological Surgeon

Mr Maurice Lau is a Consultant urological surgeon at Urology Clinics Manchester. Maurice came from Hong Kong completing his A-levels at Epsom College before embarking on his medical degree first at St. Andrews University followed by Manchester University graduating with an M.B.Ch.B.. Basic surgical training followed attaining F.R.C.S.(eng) before specialist urology training in Greater Manchester culminating in the award of F.R.C.S.(Urol).

Maurice had his first Consultant appointment to Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh in 2000, a busy district general hospital where Maurice developed his interest in uro-oncology. Maurice was then appointed in 2006 jointly to Salford Royal and The Christie NHS Trust as a Consultant Uro-Oncological Surgeon.

Since then Maurice has focussed his subspecialty interests to pelvic oncology and penile cancer. Maurice helped to establish robotic prostatectomy in the North West and started the robotic partial nephrectomy program at The Christie. He has a wealth of experience in robotic prostatectomy and contributes to the national BAUS audit database. Maurice also introduced template guided prostate biopsies improving the diagnosis of prostate cancer. He has further refined this by introducing local anaesthetic transperineal prostate biopsies.

Mr Lau helped establish the penile cancer service and presently is the Clinical Lead for that service. He has helped implement novel surgical techniques including sentinel node biopsy and minimally invasive groin node surgery

Mr Lau maintains an active clinical research interest both as principal investigator and co-investigator in many other trials. He has co-authored multiple papers in peer reviewed journals.

Mr Aziz Gulamhusein – Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon

Mr Gulamhusein is a Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust with a specialist interest in testicular cancer, kidney cancer and retroperitoneal sarcoma for which he performs complex open and minimally invasive retroperitoneal surgery.

Mr Gulamhusein holds an honorary contract at The Royal Marsden Hospital in London and visits regularly for joint operations with the testicular and kidney cancer team.

In 2008 Mr Gulamhusein graduated from Sheffield Medical School and proceeded to complete his surgical and urological training within South Yorkshire. Mr Gulamhusein was the first in the UK to undertake a prestigious Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) robotic kidney surgery fellowship at the Royal Free Hospital in London, the highest volume kidney surgery centre in the UK. Prior to undertaking his fellowship in London, he was awarded a RCS grant to visit a ERUS robotic host centre in Aalborg, Denmark.

He has a keen interest in medical education and was a previous lead for the urology module at the Sheffield Medical School. He has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education and is on the faculty for various courses and educational programmes. His research interests include investigating the use of novel 3D technology for surgical planning as well as enhanced recovery from surgery.

Mr Karyee Chow – Consultant Urological Surgeon

Mr Karyee Chow is a Consultant Urological Surgeon based in Manchester, with more than 10 years of experience. In addition to providing a comprehensive range of urological services in the private sector.

Mr Karyee Chow works as a full time NHS consultant at The Manchester University Foundation Trust, providing expert management for common urological conditions.

Mr Karyee Chow qualifications include a medical degree from Guy’s & St Thomas’ hospitals in London (MB.BS.), a Masters in Science from the University College, London (M.Sc.), a Medical Doctorate from the University of Manchester (M.D.) and a Certificate in post-graduate medical education (PGCert).

In addition to managing general urological problems, he provides specialist care for kidney stone disease, delivering the full range of treatments including non-invasive shockwave therapy (ESWL), minimally invasive telescopic (ureteroscopy) laser stone fragmentation and keyhole surgery (PCNL) using miniature instruments.

Mr Karyee Chow also carries out keyhole (laparoscopic) kidney surgery for cancerous and benign abnormalities, and minimally invasive procedures on the prostate (TURP & Urolift).

His research work into kidney stone disease has been published in peer review journals and the results presented at national and international meetings. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and a member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS), BAUS section of endourology, and the European Association of Urology.
